Roadside Emergency: Spare Tire & Tools

1. Check for the Presence and Condition of the Spare Tire and Tools:

  • Location:
  • Familiarize yourself with where the spare tire and tools are stored in your Outlander (usually under the cargo area or in a compartment).
  • Spare Tire:
  • Type: Determine if you have a full-size spare, a space-saver (donut) spare, or a tire repair kit with sealant and a compressor.
  • Condition: Inspect the spare tire for any damage, bulges, or signs of wear.
  • Inflation: Ensure the spare tire is properly inflated to the recommended pressure (check your owner's manual).
  • Tools:
  • Jacking Tools: Verify that you have the jack, lug wrench (tire iron), and any other necessary tools for removing and installing the spare tire.
  • Condition: Check that the tools are in good working order and not damaged.

2. Troubleshooting a Flat Tire:

  • If you have a tire repair kit:
  • Follow the instructions in your owner's manual or the kit's instructions.
  • Use the sealant and compressor to temporarily repair the flat tire.
  • Drive carefully to the nearest Mitsubishi dealer for a full tire repair or replacement.
  • If you have a spare tire:
  • Loosen the lug nuts: (while the car is on the ground).
  • Position the jack: according to your owner's manual.
  • Raise the vehicle: until the flat tire is off the ground.
  • Remove the lug nuts: and the flat tire.
  • Mount the spare tire: and tighten the lug nuts by hand.
  • Lower the vehicle: and fully tighten the lug nuts with the tire iron.
  • Reinstall the flat tire: in the trunk and proceed to the dealership for a full tire repair or replacement.

3. Additional Tips:

  • Check your owner's manual: for specific instructions and diagrams related to changing a tire and using the tire repair kit.
  • Practice changing a tire: in a safe location to familiarize yourself with the process.
  • Regularly check the spare tire's inflation: and ensure it's in good condition.
  • If you're unsure about changing a tire, call for roadside assistance .
